Rubber Roofs

EPDM Single Membrane Rubber Roofing

EPDM is a synthetic rubber membrane supplied in large sheets, so most domestic flat roofs can be covered in one continuous piece. With no laps across the main area there are very few joints for water to work into, and joints are where older flat roofs usually fail first.

The membrane is bonded to a prepared deck with adhesive and applied cold, without a naked flame, which suits roofs close to timber or neighbouring buildings. EPDM stays flexible in hot and cold weather, copes with movement in the roof and needs very little maintenance once it is down.

Our team fits EPDM rubber roofs on extensions, garages, dormers and commercial units across Kent and South East London. We offer a FREE drone roof inspection to help assess the condition of your roof and identify potential issues, and a FREE, no-obligation quote.

When to Call Us

Signs You Need a Rubber Roof

  • Failing Patch Repairs

If a flat roof keeps leaking after repairs, one rubber membrane removes most of the joints that let go.

  • Water Ponding on Top

Standing water wears older coverings quickly. EPDM copes better, and falls can be improved on a new deck.

  • A New Extension Roof

A one-piece membrane gives a new extension a clean, low-maintenance roof from the outset.

  • Ageing Felt Coverings

Cracked, blistered felt is a common reason to switch to rubber when the time comes to replace it.

Pricing

Rubber Roofing Costs

Every job is different, so we price from the inspection rather than guess over the phone. These are the things that move the figure.

FREE, No-Obligation Quotes. Your quote costs nothing and commits you to nothing, so you can make an informed decision about your property.

  1. Roof Size & Shape

Bigger roofs need larger sheets, and irregular shapes take more cutting and detailing.

  2. Deck Condition

A deck that needs new boards before the membrane goes down adds material and labour.

  3. Rooflights & Pipework

Each rooflight, vent or pipe through the roof needs its own sealed detail.

  4. Access to the Roof

Roofs that are high or hard to reach may need scaffolding, which forms part of the quote.

How It Works

Our Rubber Roofing Process

  1. Assessing the Existing Roof

We assess the existing covering, the edges and any rooflights or pipes the membrane will need to work around.

  2. Preparing the Deck Surface

The old roof comes off and the deck is repaired or reboarded so it is smooth, dry and firm enough to bond to.

  3. Bonding the Membrane

The EPDM sheet is laid out, allowed to relax, then bonded to the deck with adhesive across its whole area.

  4. Trimming & Detailing

Edge trims, upstands and outlet details are fitted, and the site is cleared once the roof is finished.

FAQs

Rubber Roofing FAQs

What Does EPDM Stand For?

Ethylene propylene diene monomer, a type of synthetic rubber. In practice it is a tough, flexible roofing membrane supplied in large sheets, so most roofs can be covered without joins across the main area.

Can I Walk on a Rubber Roof?

EPDM will take occasional foot traffic for maintenance, such as clearing an outlet. If you plan to use the roof as a balcony or terrace, it needs a suitable walking surface or a different system, and we advise on that at the quote stage.

Is a Rubber Roof Fitted with a Torch?

No. EPDM is bonded with adhesive and applied cold, so there is no open flame on site. That makes it a good fit for roofs next to timber or a neighbour’s property.

Can EPDM Cover a Garage Roof in One Sheet?

Usually, yes. Garages are one of the most common places rubber roofs are fitted, as a single sheet normally covers the whole area. Extensions and dormers are equally well suited.

Is Rubber Better Than Felt for a Flat Roof?

Each has its place. Rubber gives a one-piece covering with very few joints and stays flexible in cold weather, while felt is often more economical on large commercial roofs. We set out both options for your roof so you can decide.
